Update Jan 2026
The beginning of January 2026 marks just over two years since setting up cquester. If I am being honest progress has been mixed, sometimes it has seemed to take a leap forward, other times it becomes a little stuck, but overall definitely moving in the right direction, and building momentum.
The positive elements are growth in the number of bookings for public speaking, during 2025 I spoke to over 25 branches of the Women's Institute. Having now completed one full year as a STEM ambassador I have delivered talks to over 20 schools and 2000 children. The talks cover all age groups, 5-18 and range from practical workshops to more academic presentations. It remains my aim to start taking my talks into the custodial environment.
Reaching out to professionals and professional offices, has yielded little interest. It could be that I offer no commercial benefit and so engagement offers little obvious value. I have concluded that the problem with climate change is that people adopt certain beliefs about it, which suit their particular area of expertise, they assume their version of climate change is the only one with validity, they become so heavily invested in their assumptions that it becomes a problem if someone suggests there is, perhaps, another equally valid interpretation. The truth is of course, climate change has many causes and will have many solutions, all of which will have to be employed to reach net zero.
Discussions related to Biodiversity loss are equally blinkered, and often misguided. The Planning and Infrastructure Bill has provoked significant levels of concern and criticism, particularly from the nature lobby. I don't doubt the sincerity of the critics but there allegations are often clearly false, even with a modest level of scrutiny it becomes clear that the predicted outcomes will not happen, at least not for the reasons they give.
Linkedin remains an important method of sharing thoughts and so I continue to post regularly.
The last year saw other significant milestones achieved. In May 2025 I completed my one man pilgrimage walking east to west across the UK, a distance of 400 miles. In total the journey took 20 days to complete.
I recently started to write my first book entitled "For What Its Worth" an assessment of our failings related to the optimisation of land use. I remain convinced that Climate Change will force us to take a much closer look at the functionality behind the vast majority of the UK which remains undeveloped.
Thanks
